This is an example of the Cambodia and Vietnam itinerary.

Remember: We are very happy to customize this itinerary to accommodate your group specific interests. We can make it longer or shorter and adjust the cost to fit different budgets.


Day 1 Phnom Penh

Overnight flight to Cambodia

Day 2 Phnom Penh

Tour of the capital

  • Russian Market – Phsar Tuol Tom Poung – stalls selling clothes, accessories, pirate DVDs, fruit, meat, fish, motorbike parts – anything and everything you could possibly want. Try some super-refreshing smoothies. 
  • Tuk Tuk ride to Wat Phnom – stroll around the recently renovated park, which doubles up as a large roundabout. Climb a small hill to visit a  temple. Don’t forget to cover the shoulders and knees, and take your shoes off before entering. 
  • Sisowath Quay, commonly known as riverside. This area comes to life at dusk as locals flock there to enjoy golden hour looking out over the Tonle Sap River. 
 

Special event: Dinner at Romdeng Restaurant –  run by local NGO Friends International, the restaurant is run by former street kids and current students of the organisation’s hospitality training programme, which produces many of the country’s top chefs. The menu is full of Cambodian specialities including tarantula.

 

Day 3 Siem Reap

Transfer to Siem Reap 

Special event: Visit to Phare, The Cambodian Circus – the award-winning shows with acrobatics, juggling, magic, contortion and other treats to re-tell Khmer history and legends

 

Day 4 Angkor Wat

Tour of Angkor Wat

  • Bayon Temple and its famous faces,
  • Ta Prohm, the temple that featured in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider starring Angelina Jolie.
 

Tour of Artisans Angkor’s workshops – discover more about Khmer ancient arts and the success stories behind the organisation’s efforts to rekindle them. Artisans include in stone and wood carvers, lacquer painters, silversmiths and silk weavers.

 

Day 5 Ho Chi Minh City

Transfer to Vietnam

Day 7 Ho Chi Minh City

Chi Chu Tunnels in HCMC Day trip to the famous underground tunnels from the Vietnam war. The site has over 120km of underground tunnels, with trapdoors, living areas, kitchens, storage facilities, armoury, hospitals, and command centres. After the war against the French, Vietnamese soldiers expanded the tunnels and included effective air filtration systems, which helped them survive the Chu Chi carpet-bombings.

Special event: Ben Thanh Market – Vietnamese students will take us to this excellent market full of locally made souvenirs and teach us how to haggle with the vendors. 

 

Day 8 Mekong Delta

Boat trip to Cai Be floating marketa typical market  in Mekong Delta with lunch at a local food stall on An Binh Island.

 

Day 9 Hanoi

Tour Vietnam’s capital city with a local guide

Day 10 Ha Long Bay

Cruise through the emerald waters of Ha Long Bay, a beautiful natural wonder. The Bay is dotted with 1,600 limestone islands and islets. For many tourists, this place is like something right out of a movie. The fact is that Halong Bay features a wide range of biodiversity, while the surrealistic scenery has indeed featured in endless movies.

▹ Visa requirements for Cambodia and Vietnam tours

U.S passport holders must obtain a visa to enter Cambodia and Vietnam. You must obtain your Vietnam visa in advance by applying directly to the Vietnamese consulate, or by using a visa provider. You may choose to obtain your Cambodia visa at the port of entry (you will need $30USD and two passport-sized photos), by applying directly to the Cambodian consulate, or by using a visa provider.

 

▹ Health, Vaccinations

✔︎ All travelers need to be in good physical health in order to participate fully on this trip. When selecting your trip please make sure you have read through the itinerary carefully and assess your ability to manage and enjoy our style of travel. Please note that if in the opinion of our group leader or local guide any traveller is unable to complete the itinerary without undue risk to themselves and/or the rest of the group, we reserve the right to exclude them from all or part of a trip without refund. You should be able to walk at least 2-3 miles a day and be able to climb at least two sets of stairs.
✔︎ You should consult your doctor for up-to-date medical travel information or for any necessary vaccinations before departure.
✔︎ There are no major health risks associated with traveling to Cambodia and Vietnam.
✔︎ At least 30 days prior to departure, check with your doctor or healthcare provider or visit the Center for Disease Control and Prevention website at cdc.gov.
✔︎ If you have medication that you take daily, be sure you have enough for each day of the tour and any possible delays ( we recommend additional 1-2 weeks of supply).
✔︎ If you tend to get motion sickness please travel with appropriate medication. If you have a sensitive stomach consider bringing imodium as well.

✔︎ The internet is available in all hotels although speed may vary.

▹ Time zones
✔︎ Vietnam and Cambodia are 11 hours ahead of Eastern Time (ET).
✔︎ 9am in New York is 8pm on the same day in Vietnam and Cambodia.

 

▹ Currency, cash, credit cards

✔︎ The currency in Vietnam is Vietnamese dong and in Cambodia is the Cambodian riel (or U.S dollars, which is accepted everywhere, though change may be given in riel)
✔︎ Better rates of exchange are usually available overseas.
✔︎ ATMs are available in all major towns and cities and credit cards are generally available in tourist shops and restaurants. Visa and MasterCard are better than American Express, Diners. Smaller venues accept cash only.

 

▹ Baggage allowance

✔︎ Our travelers are limited to one checked bag and one carry-on bag per person due to storage limitations on motor coaches and other transfers, which may include train connections or flights. Additional baggage can be a subject of extra fees. Contact your airline for baggage size and weight restrictions for your flights.
✔︎ We recommend that you make sure you label your baggage and keep valuables, medication, and documents and a set of clothes, pijamas and cosmetics (travel size) in your carry-on bag in case of baggage delays. ber of your first hotel printed out.

 

▹ Tipping

✔︎ It’s customary to offer your guide and driver a gratuity in local currency. Please keep current exchange rates in mind.
✔︎ We recommend tipping the equivalent of $10 per day per person and giving the tips to tour leaders to distribute between drivers, guides etc.
✔︎ Tips can only be paid in cash.
